A one-of-a-kind restaurant, the city-owned Airstream trailer, is being closed this year, due to a zoning mistake by the city, Sunsets at Pismo Beach, on Pismo Pier

Pismo Beach added Airstream trailers in 2018 as part of the Pier Plaza Upgrade project, this one cost the city $151,458

in 2019 the city put out a request for proposals to lease a handful of Airstream trailers lining the pier for  visitor-serving vendors, that's when Sunsets at Pismo opened

According to the staff report, over the past five years, Pismo Beach has collected more than $217,000 from the business from licensing fees, along with 2% of gross sales revenue paid to the city as part of the lease agreement.

However, an unnoticed clerical error by the city dating back more than 20 years has led to the unexpected end of Sunsets’ business.

But here's the raw deal: the piece of beach that the Airstream sits above on the pier was zoned as open space in 2003, meaning a business is not allowed to operate there.

Not that this clear waste of money is something no one in the government is embarrassed about, as the rich and powerful aren't aware of the existence of mere peons that are worth less than a million dollars. Hell, they probably aren't aware of anyone that isn't on the Forbes list of billionaires

This version of the Silver Bullet Command and Control Modules are near the end of their 20 year lifespan of use, and about 10 months from now a big ol waste of money will result in them being retired and replaced by the newer, safer ROCCs.

 In 2019, the Air Force awarded an $8.5 million contract to SelectTech Services Corp. of Centerville, Ohio, for the design, development, integration, test and delivery of two ROCCs to replace the aging Airstream units.

Why am I convinced that it's a waste of money to fly all these beauracrats around the world for meetings? A thing you might have heard of, teleconferencing. Zoom calls. Facetime. Skype. There are several inexpensive ways to have meetings, without leaving the office.

Camp Wandawega... you're probably not going to believe this 1960's summer camp time capsule.... was founded in 1925 as a speakeasy/brothel/weekend destination for Chicagoans, and now looks like Martha Stewart and Crate and Barrel were liberally spread throughout the camp

these are legit Girl Scout Cabins, saved from a scout camp that closed nearby

Tucked away on the shore of ‘a little lake that no one has ever heard of’ in southeastern Wisconsin, Camp Wandawega has seen it all: from bootleggers to bad cops, priests to prostitutes, hippies to hipsters, as well as flappers, fanatics, and families on vacation.

Though started at Hotel Wandewega in 1925 to make a speakeasy with trap doors, hidden rooms, etc, by 1961 it was bought by Latvian priests (I am not making that up) who escaped the Soviet Union. They made this their retirement home and Latvian Summer Church Camp
