It's worth remembering that in the twenties, when Henry Ford was intent on selling a Model T to almost everyone, that most of the urban population lived in apartment buildings or tiny houses on cramped lots with no space to park a car, so parking garages as a business became popular in cities. These storage garages soon realized they could make good money selling gasoline and performing maintenance on customer's cars. That's why your corner gas station/auto repair (before it turned into a convenience store) is known universally as a garage.
ummm, I'm skeptical on that. Do you have any source for that, or is that an opinion. Making a declaration of why the mom n pop corner service station is known as a garage, that's quite the claim. Frankly, I doubt that entirely, I've been doing this too long
