In the late 1950s, Popkov traveled a lot throughout Siberia and saw, with his own eyes, how the workers at large Soviet construction sites lived. Therefore, this painting is another story from their everyday life and a vivid example of socialist realism style.

I have another of his paintings of a young couple motorcycling through a field of grain saved in my phone. The soft colors and Idyllic setting just make me feel good when I scroll past it while looking for something else. Fantastic artist.

ReplyDeleteYou are sure welcome, I just love that top painting of the girl on the job, and that his other painting, years later, was her getting a ride on a motorcycle to get to that job. I wish he'd made more LIKE that top painting, but his other work simply isn't at that level of concept, humor, etc. His other work, to me, is far inferior in technique and composition, hell, most of his other paintings don't seem to be a scene from life. They are representations, to me, of a thing he wanted to bring attention to
