  1. Hey, underneath they were still B-bodies, and you could still get them with a 400 CI big block.

    If I find a nice clean one for $4,000 or less, I'm getting it!

    1. I wouldn't pollute a mexican junkyard with a 400. There were 383s, 413s, 426s, and 440s. Why in the hell did they ever make a 400?

    2. At the time, they were working to satisfy emissions demands while maximizing torque. As built, the 400 was an underpowered slug, but it has the biggest bore of any big block. Put in a 440 crank (with a good set of heads) and you've built a fire-breathing 451!

      And if you want a 383 or 440, they'll drop right into the engine bay.
