DIY air conditioning, for any closed cab vehicle the cheapskate bastard company you work for bought, that wasn't optioned with air conditioning.

of course, this reminds me the the home made radio/speaker boxes that truckers made because their cheapskate bastard employers didn't buy trucks with radios/cd players/xm radio/mp3 player plug ins.

  1. The original idea of the ice chest AC is for use in small single engine aircraft where weight as well as certification of mechanical accessories becomes an issue. Principally used for ground operations where there can be extended ATC departure holds.

  2. Back in the 1970's I was a field rep for a car manufacturer and occasionally we would end up with an un-optioned field car. I had an AM/FM radio and antenna in a shoe box with a cigar lighter plug to use on those occasions! Easier than messing with the paperwork for installing a radio in a car I would only have for a few weeks.

  3. The trucking company I worked at didn't want even personal radios in the truck cabs. Some dopes would key the mikes to share songs, not making the dispatcher happy.

    1. yeah, what a great bunch of guys who run a trucking company... I can imagine the hiring conversation going something like this: "just get out there, and drive! No AC! You don't need it! Radio? What do you think I'm running here, Dick Clark's American Bandstand?!!?"
