Mike's dad's Standard in Hugo, Colorado was a thing of beauty for many years. After having big plate glass windows broken by sonic booms from USAF planes for the second time, the glass was replaced with wood.

After that the station never looked so good again.

I'm not sure when the sonic boom was permissible, and when the military wasn't allowed to do that anymore, but I remember hearing them regularly in 1979 because of the the Air Force doing training over the area I lived, in Houghton County Michigan, from KI Sawyer AFB, and they were dropping the tin foil chaff a lot too. You'd find it all over the fields and in the woods

  1. Been to Hugo. Nice little town. Anyone know if Carl still runs the grocery store?
