electric car from Citroen, the Ami. about 30mph, 3 hour recharge, around 6000 Euro. Designed with as few unique parts as possible. The front uses the same body parts as the back and even the doors are exactly the same.

would be great for campers, commuters, min wage earners, etc

But mostly, for driving in Paris or other cities that ban old cars, and maybe even combustion engine cars.

It's a big planet, damned if I know if that's a thing yet

  1. OK, but why on Earth thay have to make it that ugly?! It is looks like a love child of a porta john (even the color) and a quadricycle. Minimal cars are Citroen's religion, that is all right. But if you google "2CV Concept" you can find marvelous design concepts - not coming from Citroen of course. Why don't they do something like that? Everybody would be crazy about it. 8-(

    1. I addressed the design in the title of this post "The front uses the same body parts as the back and even the doors are exactly the same." and that explains the ugly factor.
To sell a car this cheap, the car company has to make it new, but use as few new molds and presses for body parts as possible.
SO, front and back must be the same shape,
the doors, must be the same shape,
and there you have twice the amount of parts, with one set of dies and presses.
Notice, the best looking vehicles always have a long front, small cab, and short rear deck?
They also cost a LOT more to make.
Because they have so many car parts to stamp out. So, they must have many more dies made, and presses in use, to create all those body parts.
So, the fewer parts, the fewer dies, the less cost to have those dies made, the mony savings results, and it's always at the cost of looks.
PLUS, they have to have a vehicle that has engineered safety inherent in the design. It must meet crash safety standards, but also be some what aerodynamic.

If you can afford a great looking car (Ferrari 250 GTO) then great. Good for you.
If you want teens to be able to buy a new car, and get the hell out of the house and get a job, then someone has to make a really cheap car.

    2. OK, Jesse, I got it, but... If they put a little more desing effort into this they could make it much-much more better looking! Even the Tata Nano is looking better and it is a four seater. But let me show you something:

Can you tell that the frontend and the backend of that bus - including the windows - are exactly the same? I did not noticed that since my childhood. Someone pointed out that to me. Because it is not ugly, I just did not realized somehow. (OK, not the most beutiful thing in the world, but not painful to look on it.)

You made my day! 8-)))) Thank you!!!
