those Buck Rogers guns are still on ebay, but now, a lot of garage tinkerers are making ray guns EVEN COOLER! using old drills, 1/4 Hp, 1/2 HP... BIG GUNS! and tiny ones too, not that size matters, with all sorts of wires, tubes, hardline copper with brass fittings, and chrome gee gaws... there are a lot of fun people using scraps from thrift shops... and there are people using Nerf guns to make video game guns too
