Joe worked as a tool and die maker for Edelbrock Equipment Company.
He lost to Bob Riffle and his Rod Shop Anglia in the C/G class final at Pomona that year.
Riffle then went on all the way to runner-up in Street Eliminator, losing to the factory backed Dodge Charger of Dick Landy.
