the abandoned electric trolley bridge over the Maumee River. It's 1221' long and 16' wide. It was built in 1908 and discontinued use in 1937 when interurbans cars were no longer used.

  1. A shame to see that grand viaduct slowly decaying away.

  2. This bridge is upriver from Toledo, and is known as the "Roche de Boeuf Bridge", because of the large rock in the middle of the river. It's supposed to mean Buffalo Rock or Beef Rock, and was important to the local Native Americans. I read that part of the rock was damaged when the bridge was built, after the builder promised that it would not be affected.

A local group has been trying to save the bridge for many years. I saw on the Toledo news last night that the state of Ohio has allowed the bridge to be preserved. The Ohio DOT has started working on the bridge, but they say it could be demolished if it is too badly damaged.
