Over the weekend, I saw an article posted on Facebook, that I think was from a local TV station in Pennsylvania. The headline read something like "Mass casualty event at Big Boy 4014 train event". I read the article, hoping that it wasn't some terrible accident or boiler explosion. What actually happened was that a bunch of people got overheated because of the high temperatures and the fact that the train was about an hour late arriving. I guess nobody watched the weather forecast or took extra water with them to stay hydrated.
4014 will be back in Ohio next week and will be stopping for most of the day near me. Later in the week, the B-29 Fifi and some other planes will be at the Toledo airport for a few days, offering tours and flight experiences. I haven't decided if I will take some time off work to see one or both.
you know they charge 20 bucks or more to get inside the FiFi? It was here in San Diego a decade ago, and hell yes I paid! The flights are 400 or more. Yeah, I heard about the heat wave, overheated tourists, etc. Most people interested in steam trains are old, or fat, or both... and a bunch of out of shape people in the sun? Nothing but sweat and misery
Yes, I saw it's $20 to get in. If I go, I'll probably try to be there when they are doing the flights, so I can see and hear that, and get my money's worth.
What a magnificent Beast that is ! Wished I was there.
