Dan Blocker, who played Hoss on Bonanza, was the 1st tv star to be hired by a car dealership, to help sell cars. Nickey

The source for this bit of trivia, is the MCACN magazine, and I guess they meant that it wasn't a celeb hired by the manufacturer, as so many radio and early tv stars were part of the advertising of cars in magazines, newspapers, and commercials.

Maybe he was the 1st tv star that was hired by a dealership, and not the manufacturer.

But what's the real interesting point, is that he was hired by Nickey

  1. Have you ever seen Alley Oop? He was a cartoon character in daily comic strips in the 1940's and 1950's. He spawned an expression used to encourage someone to get up from rest which is ALLEY OOP!

    1. of course I did, I mentioned in the title to that post, that he's my favorite cave man. I read the comic strip Alley Oop as a kid. Must have either still been ongoing, or reprinting it from the beginning like they did when Charles Schultz retired, and they started Peanuts all over again. Not a bad idea. But how many people still get a newspaper, and read the comic strips too? Not many I imagine.
