I have one that my parents took with me on the Hood of their Studebaker up here in Washington. Quack! I have somehow become OLD! Where's my Time Machine?!!
I remember going as a kid to Fort Ticonderoga in the 1950's and they had these. After a visit, one came out to the lot and all the cars had had these put on in our absence. Many of the cars in the vicinity also had similar ones from the nearby Ausable Chasm, which we didn't visit, but I remember this because at the time (I mean I was only 7 or so) I thought "Ausable" was an adjective, sort of like "awesome." I wanted very much to visit the awesome chasm, but we didn't have time. I did many years later - you can get on a boat and go down it. It is of course teh Ausable Chasm because it is carved by the French named Ausable river, but it is pretty impressive too!
Now I live only a short distance from Ticonderoga, in fact though it's some miles away, on a clear July night one can see a snippet of their celebratory fireworks on the fourth over the hills.
