a radio station mobile broadcast truck!

I found that there is a guy out there, the Radio Historian, who is collecting photos of radio station remote location cars

  1. Jesse, I may have mentioned this before but, I have a fascination with radio call letters and their history. Many of the early stations chose the call letters to have certain significance. In the last photo you can see "Gold Medal Radio Station, WCCO". Washburn Crosby Company (W-C-Co) was one of the major flour mills of Minneapolis and maker of Gold Medal flours when the owners decided to invest in the new medium of radio. WCCO radio and WCCO television are still active in the Minneapolis - St. Paul area. Their historic competitors in radio and TV are KSTP (ST. Paul -get it?) and WTCN (Twin City News), though that last was renamed KARE for corporate reasons. Just another rabbit hole...

    1. very cool info! It's satisfying to find that the letters correspond to something realistic, STPaul and Twin City News, when so many radio stations were stuck with meaningless WXXY combinations. Similarly, airport 3 letter designators are pleasing when they spell out the city SFO, ATL, DFW
