He did, that's why he's standing back from the camera. Some years ago I was working an AMA Suberbike race when a crashed bike took out a trackside remote camera. The production crew was nervous about telling their boss, expecting to be chewed out for bad placement of an expensive camera. When they finally screwed up the courage to talk to the production manager he only asked "Do we have the video?" The tape of the bike mowing down the camera was worth WAY more than the purchase price of a replacement. The people in the photo may have made the same calculation.
Well, dang, you're onto the truth of it... the gear is replaceable, the recorded video is unique, and a money maker of things go right with broadcast, etc etc Thanks!
