on Monday evening in San Diego it was a clear night, it is a straight piece of interstate, the road was dry, and visibility was clear for a long distance of road ahead.... so why the hell was there a 6 car pile up that killed 2? A moment of silence for the young officer who was giving aid... and struck by some asshole.

two cars crashed on the eastbound I-8, one was driving recklessly, and one of those vehicles overturned in the lanes and was struck by a third car.

The driver of the overturned vehicle, died.

That's when La Mesa Police Officer Lauren Craven, who was on duty, stopped and got out of the car to render aid.

Officer Craven was returning to the city of La Mesa from San Diego Central Jail when she came upon a collision on eastbound Interstate 8 at Fairmont Avenue. After exiting her vehicle to assist, she was tragically struck and killed by another motorist.

Another car approached and hit the officer, as well as the other crashed cars.

A fifth vehicle then slammed into the crash scene.

Here's what I saw when I took the exit off the 15 to 8 East

about 6 police cruisers from the fast lane to the slow lane blocking the interstate, and about another dozen off to the shoulder

Update, Thursday Oct 23rd, the driver that ran into the officer, killing her, and killing the driver of the car that was upside down, was arrested for DUI
