two cars crashed on the eastbound I-8, one was driving recklessly, and one of those vehicles overturned in the lanes and was struck by a third car.
The driver of the overturned vehicle, died.
That's when La Mesa Police Officer Lauren Craven, who was on duty, stopped and got out of the car to render aid.
Officer Craven was returning to the city of La Mesa from San Diego Central Jail when she came upon a collision on eastbound Interstate 8 at Fairmont Avenue. After exiting her vehicle to assist, she was tragically struck and killed by another motorist.
Another car approached and hit the officer, as well as the other crashed cars.
A fifth vehicle then slammed into the crash scene.
Here's what I saw when I took the exit off the 15 to 8 East
here's early Tuesday, as the freeway was closed for around 14 hours in this section.
