As for the "dude ranch" it seems that it simply was the marketing strategy of the 80s of her 3000 acre ranch in Tennessee, near the I 40 and TN hwy 13, and is a huge campground and RV park.
anyway, this 68 Ranchero was modified in the 1970s as part of an alternative fuel demonstration program, which included replacing the factory V8 with a propane-powered inline-six.
I love the lettering all over the truck.
Hopefully someone wants to buy it and convert it to a cool streetable muscle car. It's got a rust free perfect body

My first thought was "Where did you find that old picture?" because Ernie Tuff's museum (like Ernie) has been gone a long time. Then I noticed it's from a current for-sale ad. The propane tank in the back brings back memories, too. I lived through the propane conversion craze in the late seventies (the early part of my automotive career).
ReplyDeleteYou may already know that Loretta Lynn's is also home to the biggest amateur motocross races in the country every year.
Why was there a propane conversion craze? Just a response to escalating gas prices, like the bio fuel diesel of 25 years ago? No, I had never heard about the amateur motocross races! That's something! Thanks!
