Here's something odd... Capt. Belin's cool Jeep had 3 cartoon characters of art, there a lot of photos of, and they even got the back of it when it was towing a trailer!

XXII Corps 67th Signal Battalion Head Quarters - 3rd vehicle
XXII Corps arrived overseas on 30 December 1944 and served to the end of the war

I first came across this Jeep in June of 2020, and here's more photos of it... https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2020/06/the-memphis-belle-jeep-with-great.html

it's the Memphis Belle, and I still haven't figured out what is going on with the huge curved front bumper to grill piece with the nose art

Or the two bottles of wine

  1. There's also something hanging down below the rear bumper. I wonder if that, and the thing on the front, are fender extensions?

    1. Thank you! I saw that back bumper area too... and wondered, mud flaps? Dust air dam? or armor to prevent low caliber bullets from destroying the tires from dead ahead or straight behind, on narrow roads and streets? So many questions, all answers lost to history, sadly

    2. like, why 3 cartoon characters, and why these three? Looks like Bugs Bunny (early version) invented in 1938, and the front bumper Wolf from the Tex Avery "Slick Wolf" of 1942, both predated this 1944 photo album

  2. I'll bet that that wine was garnered as a favor done for the locals, or purchased, or traded from something such as cigarettes. Great memorabilia!
