another vehicle that is from Mexico, that they can't sell in the US, but somehow, can legally drive here anyway? Makes no sense to me

 A Renault Kangoo

  1. Hard to tell from this angle, but my guess it is a 1st gen. Kangoo. Makes sense, as it was produced until 2018 in Argentina. I am sure there is no technical reason not to be sold, or not to be driven in the US. I am sure I did not say anything new to you, but there is no dealer network for Renault cars and vans in the US and a good reason for that: These French cars hardly have any market in the USA! With those 1-, 1.2-, 1.4-, 1.5-, 1.6-, 1.9 liter petrol and diesel, inline four engines (in the Kangoo) would not sell at all, because they are too small and not powerful enough (57-85hp) for the American taste - especially paired with an automatic gearbox. The Kangoo is a typical workmule, not good, not terrible. The pre-facelifts version has a "cute face" - at least according to my daughter. :-) Affordable and very popular in Europe everywhere.
Well, if you rich enough you can ship your american street legal car to Europe as well, you are allowed to drive it for a couple of months, regardless the technical requirement differences to be road legal, like the red turn indicator lights in the back. I think 3 months is the limit, but not sure, but it is perfectly suits an average tourist needs. After that you need a local licence plate and have to modify according to the local laws. US soldiers based in Rammstein could say more about that. :-)
