I would have to think he just been vey lucky and probably no high speed traffic to deal with. I have had Big Twin HDs with foot clutch petals and hand shifters bolted directly to the transmission ratchet top. No front brake on a extended front fork glide frontend. Running in traffic can get exciting real quick. Sitting up hill at stop signs require riding the clutch or rolling back on someones front bumper which always got interesting. While living in Tampa around the spring of 1972 there was a big Black club that road mostly Harley dressers with as many extra lights front and back. Saddle bags and everything that could be unbolted was chromed. They pretty much all had 100" engine and could pull wheelies at speed. They would decide to race for money as a club and anyone was invited including me and my riding pardner from vietnam. Not a chance in a lifetime of out running any of those bad boys but when asked where the race was to be they said Tampa to Miami and they were not kidding. Great times for two young White boys to be running around with pockets full of cash. Have had a number of other HD wrecks over the years but I will have to tell you about those later.
