now and then I get to get into a fire dept while on the job. Yesterday I was in two, and both had display cases of museum pieces

I never heard of a Plectron before!

and I never heard of a "Disposable Obstetrical Kit"

  1. Back in the 1960's my girlfriend's dad was a volunteer fire captain and they had a Plectron in the living room. When that sucker started beeping everybody jumped. I found it fascinating, turned me into a scanner junkie. For many years I had a scanner on most of the time. You could always tell there was something interesting going on by the amount of animation in the voices on the police frequencies. The fire and ambulance frequencies alway had an alert tone. With repeater systems you could hear the weaker signals from remote squads. So many departments are using higher frequencies and/or scrambled broadcasts a scanner is not as useful these days.
