A friend of mine had one in the early 1980s. Had the 318 in it. He decided to put a 3 deuce setup on it. After finally tracking one down, he got it installed a few months later. Problem was getting the linkage synchronized. It either ran on one or all three carbs. When you were cruising along and punched it, he said the rear end would hop up and sideways a foot!
It's in the eye of the beholder,I reckon. As a huge fan of the 61/62 Valiant,i saw the big brother side of it. We never had many here in Aus. but I kinda liked them.
That 413" would have been a real terror once they got the wheel hop handled and that really isn't that hard to do. Ugly is up to the beholder but it sure would have been a sleeper and embarrassed a lot of street racers. Personally I like better now in my old age then I did in my youth.

ReplyDeleteWell, I have to say that Mr. sparks gave me a laugh. I also commend you, Jesse, for recognizing this FINALLY as one of the ugliest cars ever produced.
ReplyDeleteA guy in HS had a '62 Polara conv, black w/wht top, red/white interior, 361 pushbutton auto. I wish I had it, it was a good looking car in black.
