historic car news, two of the biggest Japanese car companies are merging. Honda and Nissan are getting the paperwork figured out, and they figure by 2026 they'll have finished
The merger will make them the third largest automaker in the world, behind only Toyota and Volkswagen.
This is going to be very interesting, because Nissan is partial owner of Renault and with that Alpine and Dacia brands. This is not too interesting for you in the USA, but for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia it is.
As of November 2023, both Renault and Nissan have a 15% voting stake in each other. One doesn't own the other. They simply have invested an equal share in each other. Just like Ford and Mitsubishi, Ford and Jaguar, Chrysler and Mercedes, etc etc all the cooperative ventures that have existed for a short while, then failed.
