Mario Andretti in the b&w photo.
ReplyDeleteaccording to what source? Silodrome says it's Garner, I don't think so, it doesn't look like Garner, but, it doesn't look like Andretti to me either. Looks like Knievel.
DeleteCompare with the thousand of photos you can find on the internet. Not Garner, not Knievel. It's 100% Mario Andretti.
DeleteI think it looks like Mario, too. There's a picture in this article of Mario from the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring that looks a lot like the one here. He has the same sideburns and similar sunglasses.

So, just your opinion, with zero to source your claim on, and if there are a thousand photos, you shouldn't have any problem finding 5 that are exactly the same to prove you're right. See how easy that is? You can prove what you say the same way I do, by including links so people can see more than one source of info that proves what you're saying is a fact. I've made about 40,000 posts with more than one link, it's really not that difficult, after all, you say there are a thousand photos that this will compare to.
DeleteDo you have a proof ? Silodrome has a proof ?
DeleteI met Mario Andretti twice in the 70s during races in Europe.
Maybe some people need glasses?
Yes, maybe you need glasses. Maybe you're not aware of how to read, or what you're reading, because you need glasses. That's possible, but not likely. It's more likely you're too lazy to do what you suggested I do, look online for photos of Mario Andretti about 1970 or so, and compare those photos of Mario, to this photo of someone on a Mickey Thompson mini dragster.
DeleteYes, I asked if you have proof, you are aware what proof is? How about a link to a comparable image? Or a website that shows that this image has been attributed to someone, like Garner, like Silodrome did, or Andretti, or someone else?
Does Silodrome have proof? Do I give a shit if they do? They made a statement, I don't care if they were right or wrong, and why can't you just prove that you're right?
You already said, there are a thousand photos of Mario Andretti online, and it's so simple to compare them, according to you, that anyone can do it.
Obviously, except you, as you met Mario in Europe. That, and a nickel, don't amount to much when asked for proof that this image of someone on a Mickey Thompson mini dragster is some one you decided on with zero to show others that they can decide for themselves that your proof is absolutely 100% spot on.
So, I do think it's cool you met Mario Andretti, twice, in the 70s, and that you were in Europe for races then.
And that doesn't have anything to do with me replying to your comment yesterday, nor, that you couldn't do the very simple easy and fast operation of finding a photo that is clearly Mario Andretti, online, and providing me with that link, so I can compare it with this of someone on a Mickey Thompson mini dragster.
Maybe some people need to lose the attitude?
I'm here sharing cool stuff, what's your fucking problem?
I can only suggest that you write to this address. I'm sure Mario Andretti himself will be happy to give you the proof you need.

FYI, this photo was posted a few years ago on another motorsport forum and one of the subjects was Mario Andretti. All the answers were unanimous and said it was Mario. Impossible to find the page, there are thousands on this forum and many photos disappear after several years.
And I don't have any problem. Why this agressive tone ? Take a beer and have a nice day.
so 2 days ago, there were a thousand photos that would prove it's Andretti, now, you can't seem to find a single one, nor a link. Once again, you think I should waste my time proving you right by doing YOUR research to find something to corroborate your story. You really aren't good at this, you should stick to doing something you're good at. Trying to get me to look up shit, because you're lazy, ain't it.
DeleteOh, and I noticed you also are sure Mario will be happy to give me the proof. Let me see if you ever heard of "put up, or shut up"
DeleteSince you are all talk, and do zero to back it up, it's time for you to realize that lazy ass approach ain't tolerated here.
So do not comment on anything anymore on fact checking. YOU have done zero to be helpful, and I expect that you are not going to ever see how the rest of us expect that when you, or we, start popping off about how anything is not accurate, it's incumbent on the person point out an error or mistake to prove the facts. Since you've had days to, and opportunities to, and failed royally, I'll go one farther and point out Noblesse Oblige has been a custom for hundreds of years. Those who are full of it must share it. So, since you can't, then shut up
I've been reading dozens of blogs for years, but have never seen a single administrator insult their readers like you just did.
DeleteI don't need your blog, so I'm going to do what you ask : *shut up* and throw this blog in the trash.
this is not an airport, there is no need to announce your departure.... no one cares. Obviously, you could not just shut up, no more than you could prove a damn thing. So, I'm certain I'll be hearing from you over and over and over again. People as full of themselves as you must be, who give them selves a screen name, never seem to shut the fuck up and go away. They prefer to try and have the last word on everything, and always fail to give that any effort to make it memorable. I've forgotten many people in just the past week, all far cooler than you, no doubt I'll have forgotten you in less then 20 minutes, probably less than 5, the instant I move onto the next distraction
DeleteThey are both on the same mini dragster, if you notice that there is something taped onto the front axle in both pictures.
ReplyDeleteHoly shit! I didn't notice that! Great observation! Both were at the same event, and drove the same mini dragster, for publicity photos no doubt! Thank you! That's something crucial to the case of figuring out of where and when they were photographed, and EVERYONE else missed it! YOU nailed it! Standing ovation for you!
DeleteI just found that RM Sotheby's confirms that it's Mario, and since they say that Mickey made the mini dragster in 1970, it's just a process to find every race event that Mario Andretti was at, that Paul Newman was also at.
DeleteI'm going to start with the 1970 12 hours of Sebring, as Motor Trend shows Mario wearing this very same looking racing fire suit at that race, but I read through the drivers on Wikipedia, and Newman wasn't driving at that race.
I did find that Newman's 1971 race suit, was very similar, with the blue stripe down the sides https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/pn23/lots/n0077-1971-trackstar-nomex-racing-suit-worn-by-paul-newman/
