Update to the Aug 2023 Kansas City newspaper story, where the 98 year old newspaper co-owner died, because the chief of police raided her home, and the newspaper business office, over publicly available information, so his girlfriend could save face... he's getting criminally charged

In a 124-page report summarizing the findings of their investigation, the special prosecutors, Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett and Riley County Attorney Barry Wilkerson, indicate that the staff of the newspaper that was raided, the Marion County Record, committed no crimes in verifying information in the business owner’s driving record through a database available online from the state.

A day after police raided Meyer’s home, his 98-year-old mother, Record co-owner Joan Meyer, died. He blamed her death on stress caused by the raids.

Posted because I'm outraged that such a clear violation of Freedom of the Press, still goes unchecked in 2023. Because? Cops have zero supervision, and whoever the hell is supposed to keep them honest, and professional, gave up even trying.
