  1. have you seen the film The Flag of Our Fathers?
It is the story of how these men were used for propaganda during WWII.

    1. I saw that movie, and know the song about Ira Hayes by Johnny Cash, but they weren't quite used for propaganda, any more than any of the bomber crews that completed 25 or 50 or 100 bombing runs who got to fly home (like the Memphis Belle crew) to sell war bonds. They were celebrated and honored all over the place because of the victory on Iwo Jima, and were at war bond drives. That's not quite propaganda.

      1. information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.

I don't think there was anything misleading about the war bond drive celebs and heroes, those had one goal, get the American public to donate money that would be paid back after the war, so the govt would have more money to pay for military supplies

  2. The Flag of Our Fathers is originally a book, well written. As for propaganda, it was positive propaganda for selling war bonds. May The Lord preserve their souls! Not all of these five men had an easy life post-war.
