This fall, for the first time, Williamsport High School has an introduction to trucking course, offered at as part of a nationwide push by the industry to hire young drivers who will work longer, for less wages, than experienced truckers

The American Trucking Association projects that trucking companies will need to hire nearly 1.2 million drivers over the next decade.

Part of that's because of a rapidly aging workforce: the average age of long-haul truck drivers is 46, according to the group. Not long they'll be past the age for heavy strenuous work.
Few long-haul truckers say wages are enough to make up for time away from their families.
Turnover in the industry is high.

One solution the the industry wants, getting young drivers into the industry earlier.

Trucking has not been among the vocational programs offered at high schools, because of age restrictions on interstate trucking. Federal law requires drivers of commercial vehicles to be at least 21 years old to cross state lines.

(but any 18 year old in the military can operate any vehicle they are trained and checked out on, I know. I was single sticking a 6,900 ton reactor powered sub warship with torpedos. So, why can't can't 18 yr olds drive a semi across a state border? They can serve in the army as combat  infantry in a foreign war, be drafted, or vote. Why can't they drive a business truck?)

"That's where you make most of your money at," says Joshua Hewitt, a 17-year-old senior at Williamsport High School who's enrolled in the trucking class. "You can make money in state, but over state, going from West Coast to East Coast — that's where you make the most money."

But now, the federal government is piloting a three-year apprentice program that will allow 18-to-20-year-olds to drive commercial vehicles on interstate routes, opening up career opportunities for high school graduates that didn't exist before.

men escaping the war in Ukraine and arriving in Ireland have been forced to take shelter at Dublin Airport

Women and children are necessarily given priority at the asylum shelters in Dublin, which hit their max capacity real fast, so the men were sent to the airport facility

The Minister for Children, Equality, Integration, Disability and Youth, Roderic O'Gorman, said that the Citywest Transit Hub is entirely full and authorities were prioritizing providing accommodation for women, children and the most vulnerable over the weekend. Single men, however, had no option but to head to the airport to seek shelter.

this is an oh WOW! transformation if a 51 Ford Mercury dashboard... from stock to superb!

the Mercury truck hood spear chrome trim IS rare... and this is just the perfect place to boost the design that the factory failed on. Well, Ford didn't waste money in boosting the trucks appeal at the factory with a better design.
But Terry realized how to improve it, he added a Shift-O-Guide speedometer in the center, deleted the "man sized (as described in the sales literature)" ashtray, removed the eye brow over the glove box, extended the glove box to the top of the , and added the Mercury spear

Comparing the top and bottom photos shows how remarkable the dash looks NOW

and under the hood he topped the air filter housing with a Mercury hub cap, and added a Mercury Big Job spear down the hood

A Tesla whose battery caught fire on Oct. 11, 2022 after having been submerged during the flooding that occurred during Hurricane Ian. The car was located in the parking garage of a residential building

Firefighters from the North Collier Fire Rescue District quickly removed it from the garage and extinguished the fire. It later reignited and was extinguished for a second time.

Florida's State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis tweeted, "there's a science experiment taking place in Florida with EVs and salty storm surge waters."

As of Oct. 26, USA TODAY has been able to confirm 11 cases in which EVs caught fire in Florida after flooding from Ian, all believed to be due to the cars' battery packs shorting out after being submerged in saltwater or physical damage to the batteries during the flooding.

INKAS Armored Vehicles delivered to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, for the the Haitian National Police fight organized crime, in response to a request for international assistance from the Haitian government

The US Air Force press release states, in a missed context message, that cholera crisis needed access via improved security. (so, warlords leveraging access to meds and hospitals in trade for money?)

a U.S. Air Force C-17, based at Joint Base Charleston, S.C., transported vital security equipment, including tactical and armored vehicles, purchased by the Haitian National Police (HNP) from Canadian Forces Base Trenton in Ontario, Canada, to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The delivery of the vital equipment was part of a joint operation involving U.S. Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft.

The delivered equipment will help the HNP ensure access to vital resources and infrastructure urgently needed in Haiti to respond to a public-health crisis following a recent rise of cholera cases in the country.

They assessed how the U.S. government can continue providing various forms of assistance aimed at helping the country improve security and respond to the growing humanitarian crisis.

Together with the Haitian government, the United States and Canada affirm the importance of working together to support the restoration of security in Haiti in partnership with the international community.

Ahhhh... NPR cuts through the PC bullshit, "The U.S. and Canada sent armored vehicles and supplies to Haiti to help fight a gang"

A request from the Haitian government resulted in the U.S. Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force  joint operation deployment of foreign troops to help Haitian police fight a powerful gang

"This equipment will assist (Haiti's National Police) in their fight against criminal actors who are fomenting violence and disrupting the flow of critically-needed humanitarian assistance, hindering efforts to halt the spread of cholera," the State Department said.

Which isn't the situation...  reading on to the bottom of the article gets past the smoke screen about cholera - and it's about the fuel terminal on the island getting overrun because of the record high gas prices

The equipment arrived more than a month after one of Haiti's most powerful gangs surrounded a fuel terminal and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

Demonstrators also have blocked roads in major cities to protest a sharp rise in fuel prices after Henry announced in early September that his administration could no longer afford to subsidize fuel.

Since then, gas stations have closed, hospitals have cut back on services and banks and grocery stores open on a limited basis as fuel, water and other supplies dwindle across Haiti.

The owners of the fuel terminal announced Saturday that armed men had attacked their installations for a second time and fled with more than 28,000 gallons of petroleum products after overpowering surveillance and emergency personnel at the facility.

It was the second time this week that armed men broke into the terminal, which stores more than 10 million gallons of gasoline and diesel and more than 800,000 gallons of kerosene.

In fact, the Hill.com cut past all the bullshit, and jumped right to the issue at hand:

The U.S. and Canada have sent armored vehicles to Haiti after its government called for foreign help in defending against gangs threatening to oust acting prime minister Ariel Henry.

LAPD dog handler let his dog bake to death, then LAPD tried a cover up to avoid bad publicity. Looks even worse now that they've been busted for false official statement, falsifying evidence.

Kill a dog, I'm not going to let that slide.
Falsifying the police report? That's just another day of the week, doesn't even make the news.
Letting your police K9 die by baking in the damn cop car? Which, isn't unusual for cops to do (I've already posted about that) but then making up some bullshit about the vets? And not getting the right vet in your report, because she wasn't even there that day? Yikes.
Keep in mind, police have twisted the laws so killing a cop dog is murder of a cop... yeah, illogical, but if they do it, they don't get arrested for killing a co-worker, or murder, or manslaughter. It's all allright if cops do it, (snicker, yeah, we get it, cops can do no wrong) but if anyone else does it, cops are UPSET!
