Yale Express System, Inc. entered the public‐warehouse business in New York in 1964. A new terminal building in midtown Manhattan had 160,000 square feet of space and the new building added more than $1 million to the trucking company's annual gross revenues, but the company went out of business in 1973, possibly from the OPEC oil scam

Well Yale does make forklifts and other heavy material handling equipment for loading trucks,so it makes as much sense as lots of advertising.Which is often very little!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see anything associating this with the yale forklifts... for all this shows, it could be for yale padlocks, university, paracord, doorhandles, etc.

Hi Jesse, that was a new truck when it was built in 1964. And it is mounted on the roof of the Yale trucking company’s main terminal. The trucking company built the terminal near the Lincoln Tunnel and just a few years later all freight trailers were allowed to be taller and too tall for the tunnel. My dad was hired in 64 when the new terminal opened. In 1975 I came home from the army and I worked for them until 1976-77 when they went out of business. The company had an interesting history that included mob rubouts, insurance fraud

DeleteThis is a billboard for the long gone Yale Express System that went out business in 1973. The building itself was abandoned for many years and new owners took down the billboard in 2003.
