I had a 1967 Valiant 2-door with a 273 and a 4-speed that a buddy gave to me for installing a set of gauges and a stereo in his brand-new 1976 VW Rabbit.
It used so much oil I never bothered to change it. I just put a new filter on it every 3~4,000 miles and relied on the oil consumption and constant topping off with fresh oil to keep whatever amount of oil in it "clean".
I'd buy 5-gallon cans of 30W, and a case of filters, from a farm supply place, and keep one in the trunk.
The car had about 130,000 miles on it when he gave it to me, and I put another 30,000 on it.
That car would be worth big bucks today because it was a stripped model with rubber floor mats and hardly any sound deadener in it. You could drop a 340 in it and have a real sleeper!
