Cruise for kids, fundraiser for the San Dieguito Boys and Girls clubs.. I learned about it too late to photograph it this year

Not many happy reasons get a bridge shut down... but this one did. A lot of sports and exotic cars put together a fundraiser event to raise funds for the kids... very cool. Nino Venturella of Wells Fargo wealth management recruited from his clients with exquisite cars those that wanted to join in the cause to help out the kids... and started at the historic Hotel Del Coronado and had a police escort along the route to cut down on the stop lights breaking up the parade (maybe even to keep leadfoots in check.. there were at least 2 Bugatti Veyron, and lots of Porsche, Vipers, Vettes, Lambos, Ferrari, Astons, and Rolls Royce)
At the Del Mar track there was a car show (from what I read in a magazine article) and then a party at an airport hanger.

From the Hotel Coronado to the racetrack grounds of Del Mar, with a good look at the landscape and freeways that show off San Diego's natural good looks

Info, video, and images from http://www.c4ksd.com where there are many more galleries of the event at the various locations they stopped

Can you figure out this license plate?

It's the plate of a co-workers girlfriend, and it's a lot more complicated than I guessed. I'll post the answer here in this post tomorrow.

One good guess from J King, that backwards it would be "In a VII (roman numeral 7)"

Because a roman numeral was integrated into this, "Eye for an eye"
 I IV an I

I helped someone decide what car to buy, they agreed that the Veloster was a good choice, and bought one. Mine is the white, his is the red.

I've gotten 37 mpg round trip from San Diego to Ventura, at a bit over the speed limit lets say. He didn't mention what speed he'd driven, but he said he had 42mpg across the country.

He seems to have saved a thou buying his, for several reasons, but it irritated me that I got screwed on the tint, which he wasn't charged for.. and he got very small mudflaps that look good, though barely noticeable.

San Diego lifesavers and emergency services vehicles and crew got featured in Pacific Magazine. Good write up about 6 various departments

Robert Logan, Haz Mat Captain and firefighter

Eric Connell, firefighting helo pilot

Ashley Marino, lifeguard at Mission Beach for 9 years

Phil Collum, Commander North District Chula Vista PD

John Wood, Captain, Bomb Squad fire dept commander

Kyle Smith, Firefighter Paramedic SDFD

Full write up and more photos at http://www.pacificsandiego.com/2012/08/20/driving-force/

Cool concept to throw some attention at and publicity of the emergency services variety of people and vehicles in the many facets of a big cities essential services.

Lots of info about the Gourmet Food Vans was just published

these photos are from a gallery I posted http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2011/04/gourmet-feed-trucks-were-gathered-to.html when I accidentally came across a event they were all at.

But Pacific Magazine just published a good list of the vans, the gatherings (many!) and you can find that info at http://www.pacificsandiego.com/2012/08/20/reinventing-the-meal/

Each of 25 different vans can be accessed by twitter for schedules, locations, times etc... by using the @ symbol and then van name. Go to that link above, and you can read about the different cuisine from the vans. To make it simple, I clipped the gatherings list, and posted it below. Just try it out, and enjoy!

Hell, you like to eat don't you?

I just learned there is a Pierre Cardin AMX registry website

After I posted this 401 AMX  in a gallery http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2012/09/pierre-cardin-edition-of-401-amx-just.html , Ryan left a comment (Don't do that unless you add your email for Pete's sake, if you ask a question, I can't answer it without your email) and let me know about a Pierre Cardin AMX Registry http://cardinjavelin.com/gallery.html

Further, the webmaster added the info about the AMC time in Costa Rica ... with a website, http://amc.co.cr/   (and it has a fantastic complete list of AMC prototypes) and who knew that AMC and Toyota... under the same franchisee, the same distributors, they shared the same assembly plant.

This began under the company H.T. Purdy, which soon became Purdy Motors, which still represents Toyota, and is probably the largest dealer in the country today.

Cool hot rods from the LA Roadster show 2012

These may be genuine Woodlite headlights, as hard as that is to believe, but I don't think anyone is making reproductions. They look pretty damn good on a hot rod though!

Lalique glass hood ornaments information

The 1932 catalog of the Lalique hood ornaments had 30 pieces of art, 2 of them had been paperweights. Only 3 complete sets are known to exist, and since only 7 of the fox head were made... they are likely to be the only complete sets that ever will exist.

The most recent sale at auction of a complete set had a final price of $805,000. http://www.rmauctions.com/PressRelease.cfm?PressID=845

this yelling woman head with cool swept back cockatoo hair is named "Victorie : Spirit of the wind" and was the largest piece made

above is on a Packard at the Lyon Air Museum
Below is the Nethercutt museum collection

above set is individually accessible on http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2012/03/08/rm-to-auction-collection-of-rare-lalique-mascots-at-amelia-island/

and http://www.insideline.com/car-news/rare-lalique-hood-ornaments-may-fetch-up-to-12-million-at-auction.html

but the complete set is photographed and on display at great resolution and close ups at http://www.retronaut.co/2012/02/lalique-automobile-mascots-1932/

I don't see a single photo of a complete set online

Jeep Wagoneers are in high demand, so much so that one company is buying, restoring, and reselling them

just one of a dozen examples of the ready to sell 1983-91 Jeep Wagoneers at http://wagonmaster.com/ with mileage between 25 k and 70 k, and prices between 30 to 40 k

best new idea I've heard of

in the new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta they put active ducts in the lower front fascia, to open and cool the front brakes during heavy cornering, to close for high speed aerodynamics

Pierre Cardin edition of the 401 AMX, just enjoying the San Diego sun

update, Jan 2021, TIL that Pierre Cardin became a fashion icon in the early 60s when he got the Beatles interested in his collarless suits
