So, I had another job interview today

At General Atomics, who needs to quickly hire a couple dozen people for a new contract. Just like every other month, or year.

And I figured that of the many open jobs, that I can swing doing the cable assembly job.

So, during the interview, after the hands on application test of soldering, crimping, and reading engineering drawings, they only asked about cables.

I don't thing any of the 5 hiring managers sitting at the table read my resume, or cover sheet.

Why? Because no one of them brought up the 2 things I forgot to mention when asked, "so, have you built cables before?"

Yeah, I forgot all about 3 to 4 years of being a cable guy, and fiber optic tech.

Why? Because I was trying to think of the mulitpin connectors I'd built in the Navy, and there sure wasn't much of that. I forgot just how many times I've made fiber optic lines, and connectors. The cables and connectors that this possible new job is hiring people to make, is about the same amount of precision work.

But that's the one thing I've found in common with job interviews... the people doing the interview don't want to hear from you 30 minutes later about the things you forgot to impress them with. Zero phone numbers, emails, etc were handed my way to reach out and connect with.

Some days, you know? but it could be a lot worse of a day, I wasn't even a mile from home, when I saw the top of a car laying on the sidewalk. Like the 50 ft tall ninja took a sword to some blue coupe, and made it a convertible in one swipe. No car anywhere to be seen, just the destroyed top, and glass. And a cop preventing people from using the lane next to the sidewalk.

Two blocks further on, someone smashed their car into the back of someone else's car, and everyone was out looking and taking photos and calling insurance companies. A block later? A cop pulling someone over for speeding, or something.

And all that was before the interview appointment time, which, wasn't communicated very well, and wasn't an appointment at all. Nor, was there any particular time to arrive.

yeah, it was the lab room testing to see if people applying for the job can read engineering drawings, the notes, the parts lists, then solder and crimp.

So, I was there 15 minutes early, of course, because if you're early, you're on time, if you're on time, you're late. That sort of thing.

After the test, those of us that passed were walked over to a meeting room, met an HR rep, told to come back in 2 and 1/2 hours for the interview.

Well, that's not cool, because you ain't got 2.5 hours of things to do, and lunch? is about 30 minutes.

So, I run to the post office, the bank, and lunch, and I still get back 30 minutes early, and hell, called up my sister to chat about her job.

Then, go sit in the waiting room, as they didn't actually mean, when you have an appointment time, we will be with YOU at that time. Nope. It was the Navy all over again, show up, and wait, and we'll get to you when we do. Then, they didn't have a moment to waste going through anyone's interviews, as they had a handful of people to interview.

Then I was told I'd learn today if I got the job. Well, I haven't heard from anyone, and here's the kicker, probably because they notify the placement agency, which is east coast, and that rep will not be at work by the time the interviewers reach out to tell the people they interviewed, that they are offered a position.

So, that was my day
