North Dakota, the fourth-least-densely populated state, has increased its highway speed limit to 80 mph in some spots

the politicians in their ivory towers finally noticed the great wide open areas, where there is no reason to drive slow.

Speeding tickets also are going up

  1. they are following South Dakota who did multiple steps with raising the speed limit
    1. increased gas tax to raise teachers pay
    2. increase speed limits to increase full use
    3. profit.... for school teachers

    1. I sincerely hope that it results in the teachers benefitting. However, I'm skeptical, because for 40-45 years, since they started the lotto, which was promised to give half the money raised? Or some incredible amount, like that, to the public education system. That was what they said then, but if that happened, then we have yet to see the teachers reap the benefit from the billions and billions of dollars the lotto has raised. Yup, I just double checked, public education was required to receive a minimum of 34%. The remaining funds covered the costs of administering the games. 50% was for prize money and admin
So, anyway, how is the gas tax related to teachers pay? The property tax has ALWAYS been for public education, and gas tax was ALWAYS for road maintenance.
Or, the budget, being that legislators draw it up and vote on it, determines the amount public education gets, and the dept of education determines how much teachers get from that, and the teachers union strikes for more.
But, with all that, I got nothing against the states raising the speed limit, letting us lower our MPG by going faster, and enjoying the drive, and having a side effect be teachers getting a pay raise, or more budget for the school, or school rooms
