2 news articles about aircraft mechanic's college training programs

The North Dakota State College of Science introduced the public to its new, FAA 21-month approved program to train the next generation of aircraft mechanics, launched as a way to address a regional and national workforce need for highly trained aircraft maintenance technicians.

The FAA Part 147-certified Aviation Maintenance Technology program is the only one of its kind in North Dakota (because North Dakota isn't the hot bed of regional or international airports, duh)

The science college once had an aviation mechanics program, started in the late 1920s in Wahpeton, but it was discontinued about 30 years later. (when the glut of military surplus airplanes was over, and more expensive new planes became the norm)

Approximately one-third of aircraft maintenance technicians are over age 60, headed for retirement.

The median annual wage for aircraft mechanics and avionics technicians is close to $80,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The degree program at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aviation is 16 months long.
