Sikorsky’s HO3S-1 design was the first naval helicopter to see widespread service beginning in December 1945, but at the start of the Korean War there were two Navy HO3S-1 helicopters in the theater.

  1. That was the helicopter used in the movie The Bridges at Toko-Ri. Also a number of Douglas Schrader's were seen on the carrier deck facing each other and throttling up to help steer the ship in a harbor which they actually did during Vietnam but it was very hard on those radial engines. My good friend that passed away was on a carrier off the coast of North Vietnam doing the same thing. He was on the USS Forrestal
    that had a major fire that occurred on July 29, 1967.
