Saw this Volvo 1800 yesterday morning, that sure was a good looking design! I guess car companies had some ability to take risks on unusual designs

  1. The story of how the P1800's design came to be is quite fascinating - and amusing as well. Saw the earliest prototypes at its 50-year anniversary a few years back, when the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg had a special exhibition for it. Read up on that history, in case you don't know it already.

The P1800 distinguishes itself by never being copied, just like the Citroën DS.

    1. intriguing! I never thought about the cars, that have been so original and yet, never been copied... Huh! What a cool idea for a post! Thanks!

  2. There are hundreds of such cars, but for obvious reasons a post like that should be limited to those that were produced in fair numbers. Nissan Figaro (8K produced), Studebaker Avanti (1.2K), Tatra 603 (20K) and Messerschmitt Kabinenroller (30K) all come to mind. But not Tucker and such.
