holy shit... there's a govt job for a writer-editor

In this Writer-Editor position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals involved in writing, editing, reviewing, researching, and disseminating materials for the Office of Field Operations' missions and priorities. 

Typical work assignments include:

  • Preparing clear, accurate, and concisely written documents, speeches, technical handbooks, guidance, memorandums, policies, standard operating procedures, and strategic and internal materials.
  • Implementing format requirements and style conformance to DHS, CBP, and OFO writing and editing policies and procedures.
  • Identifying and analyzing content on a variety of complex issues and present the issues while taking into consideration the sensitivity of issues and audiences.
  • Researching, gathering and incorporating information to amplify full subject coverage to process correspondence.
  • Engaging with senior leadership to provide guidance and highlight document concerns to achieve the most sensitive and appropriate product possible.
  • Writing and editing reports, news articles, and other publications and analyzing facts drawn from different sources.
  • Assisting in coordinating proposed edits directly with document points of contact throughout multiple drafting stages.
  • Providing writing and editing support to special projects.
  • Gathering information from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to, public and internal sources; the Internet; written material; and interviews with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Consulting with senior leadership concerning the enhancement and content of publications and written responses for specific audiences.
  • Communicating, orally and in writing, with senior managers to provide guidance on drafting clear, concise, consistent, and accurate written products.
  • Collaborating with senior leadership to develop and propose corrective actions to deconflict material gathered from sources and resolve conflicts between policies and objectives of senior leadership.
