Ever heard of Soldering Salts? Not me
I've heard of bar lead, it's what body guys used to lead a seam on cars, but Pig Tin? Bar Tin? Never heard of them before
the sheer variety is unreal... every variety of some item, like these forks, and I'd only ever heard of hay forks and common pitch forks before now
so reading these name... shaving fork? And how is a sugar beet fork better for beets than any of the others that are so similar?
another example of a crazy number of varieties, is the number of rakes
Ever heard of a wood tooth rake? or a dandelion rake?
How about a Lawn Comb?
and these are something I've never heard of, weed diggers, and weed pullers
interesting... not a shovel or scoop... it's just the same as a snow rood rake
Ever heard of a Snath?
It's been about 40 years since I've swung a grass whip... before the inexpensive weed whacker, this got the job done, slowly, like you were trying to make perfect gold club swings
What a wicked knife! This should have shown up in some slasher horror movie
Corn knife and Hay knife...
I've never heard of these shears called Heimerdingers before
outstanding tool, why have I never seen or heard of one?
It goes without saying, these garden hose repair parts are something I wish we'd had when I was a kid... them must have worked perfectly with a couple hose clamps
seriously, if a hanging tube of foul smelling stuff kept dogs off yards, there would be a lot of years that dogs would avoid
these are something... double sided gloves!
and lastly, things with wheels! These seem to be nicely mechanically complex
ever heard of a chicken chaser? Kept pigs from hunting chickens when they got hungry
these are ORNAMENTAL trailer hitches!

Acme Dawg-Gone ! where's Wile Coyote?
ReplyDeletelol... ACME, unreal that Warner Brothers used that brand name on all the gimmics Wile Coyote bought, and I know nothing about that real company. Someone did make a book of all the Wile Coyote tools he bought from ACME though, I saw it on Amazon... I think this is it, https://www.amazon.com/ACME-Catalog-Quality-Our-Dream/dp/B000W905TK/ref=sr_1_12
DeleteACME Catalog: Quality is Our #1 Dream by Charles Carney... THAT is the book!
DeleteThese are great, Jesse - hope you make it a regular feature!
ReplyDeleteBob
it's not going to be a regular feature, I only have the one catalog, and at 1400 pages, will only read through it this once. I have more to post, I'm about half way through posting the things I photographed. And keep in mind I have weeks left of focusing on this blog, after 20 years, like I mentioned last week. Then this will be a minor thing in my life, and I'm going to be busier on music/guitar
DeleteIf gifted another of these, I'd go through it, but, where is anyone going to find another 100 year old to 150 year old mail order hardware catalog with different items, as looking through 1400 pages of the same stuff is not going to happen. I haven't posted the paint sampler, or the ammo page, etc.. this catalog is HUGE
DeleteThe artwork in this catalog is great, especially the hay carriers.
ReplyDeleteMy local high school’s mascot is a Little Giant, so I notice that name on other things. There was a grinding wheel in your last post and a corn knife here.
I googled the chicken chaser and I couldn’t find anything in this context. I think the shorter prongs go in the hog’s snout, like a hog ring, and the long wire sticks out in front of the hog’s snout. The description says it’s applied with a regular ringer. I guess that’s where hog ring pliers got their name.
I did find a couple references to “chicken chaser” as a low powered moped, only fast enough to chase chickens.
oh the art! The illustrations are so PERFECT... I found not a single mistake, error, or misspelling also.. and there are some things, like stoves, that are illustration gold
Deletelook at the careful drawing of the rope strand endings... 4th illustration from the last, that's some really NICE drawing!
