Those old logging railroads were interesting. On the one hand, they only had to last as long as the logging operation. But on the other hand, they sure didn't want any accidents. Logging was dangerous enough already! Notice that the logs aren't chained down on the rail cars.
years ago I posted one logging railroad (A favorite topic of mine because I come from the Michigan logging deep woods) that used the topography to get the train over a hill the engine wasn't powerful enough to tackle, they scouted the terrain and planned it out like a rollercoaster... using a couple declines to build up speed to get over one hill that had to be dealt with, they could find no way around it
