According to a May 28 statement from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), a commercial vehicle compliance operation was conducted in the coalfields of western Virginia.
it turns out that some of the drivers were busted for evading fuel taxes by using dyed fuel for highway use
When diesel pickups were first a thing lots of Farmers bought them and fueled them from their supply of tractor fuel. Farm diesel does not have road tax applied. The dye is added to not taxed diesel.
ah! Thanks! So, what they should have done at the refinery, is color the farm diesel! The stuff not taxed, because that would make it impossible to color and use in commercial trucking
Not a shock just wondering where they managed to buy since you need a farm lic . First time I seen them test semi for it . Then again Where I used to live they had dyed fuel at a gas station and they didn't care . You tapped and pumped into you car . Went on for 5 years plus . Med grade fuel at about 20% less or so of normal price.
