Sir George Dowty designed the hydraulic landing gear for the World War II Lancaster bomber, and a statue of him and the gear will be officially unveiled at the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) in Lincoln on Wednesday 27 May..... not many people get a statue for suspension!
The undercarriages and landing gear of the Lancaster bomber were "faultlessly designed and manufactured" and "instrumental to safe landings for our crews at the completion of their flights"
