I owned a 1989 Pontiac Bonneville on which the front belt and shoulder harness assemblies with retractors were mounted on and within the doors. You could actually leave the belt tab latched in its receptacle and open the door to exit. Upon return, you would simply sit down and as the door swung closed the belt and shoulder harness returned to their proper positions for protection. Of course, you could latch and unlatch the belts in the regular way if you preferred.
