  1. Fond memories for me. My grandparents started camping in the Adirondack Mountains in 1936. Five daughters , four of whom were adults, a 1936 Plymouth two-door, and gear. The War came, the Plymouth was sold and the family continued vacationing ten miles north of Lake George Village in a cottage. In 1947, the family resumed camping. I was four years of age. We packed all the camping gear onto the New York Central (baggage car) and went north to Albany where our railcar and a few others were hitched to the Delaware & Hudson Line for the trip to Lake George Village where the train backed into the station. Then, the camping gear and the family were loaded into taxis to take us to Hearthstone State Camp two miles north of Lake George Village for a month of fun. So, we used that kind of camping gear that we see in this video. In 1950, my mother bought a Dodge two-door sedan and then went to Abercrombie & Fitch to but new camping gear including an 11 x 11 square foot tent with integral canvas floor and "umbrella" operation to raise the tent and give us clear space within the tent. A few of these are visible in the video. Coleman Stoves were de rigeur with "white gas" for fuel. White gas was unleaded gasoline which was available from AMOCO. Did I say Abercrombie & Fitch? For you younger generations, A&F was a sports gear outfitter, not a fashion-centered store. The fashion stuff was a later creation for the company. The store was located in NYC on the west side of Madison Avenue at 47th Street. A little history for you all. Thanks, Jesse, for this video. Tom

    1. wowee wow wow! That's a great story! A MONTH of camping? That's amazing!
I'm familiar with Abercrombie and Fitch being just a camping store, and selling the best quality stuff, like boots, which originals are now worth crazy money to collectors. Something like a vintage Rolex, the quality wearables of a century ago are super collectible.
Coleman fuel... who knew? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleman_fuel#:~: additive free gasoline!
