stuck on base, Camp Pendleton, San Diego's Marine Corps base, a 1953 engine with a couple flat cars and a caboose... never going to roll out. Has me wondering if that engine can light the motor off find a 2nd life

  1. Good post .. that is an old General Electric switcher engine .. They had two diesel engines .. I bought one from GE to use in the ExxonMobil refinery in Baton Rouge back in the 80's.. I had a lot of fun visiting the plant where they were built in Erie, Pa. The one I bought had two Cummings 6 cylinder turbocharged 4 valve engines ; I think they were 300 Hp each and were the same as used in some big rig 18 wheeler tractors. Yep, those old Cummings powerplants could be lit off easily.. That one looks like an 80 ton switcher and probably has different engines than the one I purchased for the company.

    1. you remind me that people should write their biographies! You must realize you're the 1st person to ever say the words to me " I bought a General Electric switcher engine, and visited the plant in Erie Pa. where they were built"
      My compliments!
