  1. Sadly to camp nowadays, reservations and big $$$$ are required.

    1. yes, that's sadly true. But, just to get to the national parks is also too expensive. I'm glad I went to a couple while I was in the Navy and getting transferred from here to there and driving across country which allowed me to choose the route, and I made sure to see Mt Rushmore (boring) Crazy Horse (more boring, complete scam, they are never going to continue work, and get anywhere closer to finishing it, it's a tourist money trap, hasn't changed a bit in 4 decades) Devils Tower (boring) Yellowstone (incredible, but I only drive though quickly, I'd like to go back and look all over, especially the big hotels) Yosemite (Awesome) the Grand Canyon (WOW) Hoover Dam (impressive) White Sands (incredible, been there twice, would gladly go back) Carlsbad Caverns (very cool) Bonneville during speedweek (Would love to go back) and passed by the St Louis Arch. Been to Washington DC once, to see Lincoln, Washington, and Jefferson memorials on a drive by, there was no place to park. Went to the Smithsonian... and OH WOW, that's a place to go back to. We had one day, it's not enough. I didn't get to to see the airplane part.
Anyway, I was able to do all those for less than 100 bucks I bet, and now? You probably can't do more than 2 or 3 fun under a under a hundred. It would likely cost several hundred, just in the damn gate fee.
Anyway, I doubt I'll ever have the money to go see any of them again, so I'm glad I had the opportunity to do them all once. I think I got to see the majority, and can't think of any I didn't see.
I was able to go to a couple Sea Worlds, Orlando, San Diego, and that one in Ohio. I got to see Disney World when I was stationed in Orlando, and it was a twofer ticket with military discount... see Epcot, and get to pass through to the rest of Disney World. I don't remember more than a glimpse of any of it. I was too old to really enjoy it, and it wasn't as tech in 1990 as it must be now. I'd say it was in the malaise era. I did get to see part of Disney Land a couple years before Covid, but not the old part, just the newer California Adventure. I'd like to go back and see all the life size Star Wars stuff, but really, who can afford all that now?
