  2. Oh? I didn’t know that but it makes sense because they’re both in a sense outlier states. Norway stayed out of the EU because they knew membership would mean a significant chunk of their oil & gas revenue ending up in the hands (and pockets) of French politicians and Western Australia is a bit like a foreign country. In 1933, the WA population in a referendum voted to secede from the Commonwealth of Australia (some 66% voting “yes” in a turn-out of 92%) yet in the simultaneous state general election (held on the same day in the same polling booths!), elected a government opposed to secession. Urban demographers list Perth as the world’s most isolated city, a status which much pleases the locals.
