the April 1983 B 52 crash was into Square Top Mountain in Utah, because the aircraft was supposed to be at 19900 feet, but had spent over an hour slowly descending to 3100 feet.
When the crew realized they were in a valley, obviously more than 10000 feet lower than their flight plan, they began climbing, and were at 6300 feet within 4 minutes of their lowest altitude point.
Then they smashed into a mountain at 370 miles per hour.
The wreckage had few pieces larger than a desk. Two items that ironically survived the fire included an emergency landing manual and a navigator evaluation form.
