1972 Ford Mustang Sprint Special Edition convertible, number 5 of 50 made, the patriotic option group, made available in February 1972, celebrated the American spirit and the upcoming Olympic Games in Munich

50 convertibles with this motif was made in 1972.

The goal was to have them take part in the Cherry Blossom Parade Festival in Washington D.C. in April of that year. These had upgraded door panels that were a distinct improvement.

  1. Thanks for featuring my 1972 Olympic Sprint Mustang convertible. It’s the 5th one (by VIN) of the fifty convertibles made by Ford to be driven in the 1972 Washington DC Cherry Blossom parade with a festival princess riding in each car.

    1. You're welcome, you EARNED IT! Thank YOU for bringing a unique and rare car to the event! I had a neighbor who had a hardtop one 20 years ago, and that one forced me to figure out what the heck I was looking at! They simply didn't sell enough to have ever caused me to cross paths with one until then... and I've posted a couple in the past decade, but none that I'd been able to photograph myself. https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-mustang-sprint-havent-seen-one-of.html https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2016/08/ford-celebrated-1972-summer-olympics.html
Did you travel a long way to get to the LaJolla event, or are you a fellow San Diegan?

    2. I’m new to Los Angeles and also attended the Benedict Castle show in Riverside. Next up is the San Marino show in August.

    3. good! Benedict is a surprising location, it has so much shade - and San Marino gets SO many cars! I don't go to Benedict anymore, as the drive from San Diego, round trip, vs how many cars are there, isn't enough to motivate me to spend most of a day on the road in traffic. I covered Benedict in 2015 and 2016. But San Marino is one I'll be attending again this year, I was there in 2015 and 17
