My dad had a '66 Impala SS 396 4-speed until 1969 and took a job that was going to be moving us around the country every 3-6 months. He bought a '69 Pontiac station wagon. (I was born in '66 and my sister in '67). He kept the job til I was in 1st grade and he decided to stay put.
Well, at that time sportcars had massive trunks and kids were thrown in the back seat, with no seatbelts or kids seats.
