i graduated in 83, and muscle cars were THE cheapest car you could buy. unless you lived during that time you dont remember that the price of tripled, during the fake arab oil embargo, then doubled again in 1979.
old, rusty worn out gas guzzling cars with big worn out engines that used one or two quarts of oil every tank of gas were almost free.
I had several cars in HS, a 66 Thunderbird 428 for $500 a 69 Thunderbird 429 for $600 a 69 Mercury Cyclone 351 Cale Yarbrough edition for $250 my best friend had a 70 Trans Am that cost him $1200 and a 71 Torino with a 351 Boss 351 from a wrecked Mustang for $750
my brother had a 68 Mustang 302 for $500 another friend had a 70 or 71 GTO Judge 400 4 speed for $1200
everyone forgets that the muscle cars everyone is paying $50-100Kfor today, were, at one time, just worn out junkers that no one wanted. I remember seeing superbirds and Daytonas and Shelby Mustangs in junkyards in the late 70s and mid to late 80s waiting to get crushed after all the big money parts were sold off of it.
