They got the name of the supposed person emailing this out Rachael Adams different than it would show up in their email address rachaeeadams@gmail.com Seriously? Add the "L" and make it look a bit more legit!
I wonder why they make such obvious mistakes that are clear indicators of a scam.

ReplyDeleteThese lottery scams, Nigerian Price willing to give you $1,000,000 scam, etc. are designed to be as obvious and evident as possible. They purposely include many of these "obvious mistakes" and “clear indicators of a scam”.
Scammers can send millions of emails per day. The next step for the scammer is to directly contact the victims that fall for the ridiculous initial email. By placing all these clear mistakes/warning signs scammers make sure that only the less informed, less internet savvy and more gullible victims reply (everyone else immediately knows they are looking at a scam).
Sending emails out is virtually free and very low risk for the scammer but the next step, spending time on the phone with the victim, has a cost in terms of time and money and higher risk of getting caught. By making the emails as blatant as possible the scammers ensure that they only need to talk to a small number of victims that are also highly likely to send them money/confidential information.
If the scammer sends out 1,000,000 emails and 1% of the recipients reply then the scammers would have to TALK to 10,000 people. That would require quite a significant infrastructure, people, phones, time, etc. By making the emails these bad scammers make sure they only talk to 0.001%. 10 very uninformed/gullible.
These scammers are not stupid. They are ruthless and prey on the less informed/educated.
